Rental Cars Categories
Car rental providers organize their fleets into different groups or categories.
When you reserve a car rental, the provider normally doesn’t commit to a specific car model, but to a whole class of cars within the same category.
That means you might get a different car than the one you reserved, but within the same group. Here are the most common car rental groups:
Mini or Intermediate vehicles are usually the cheapest, most basic rentals. One popular example is the Hyundai i10. This group is usually best suitable for one/two passengers, or a couple with 2 children, and a small amount of luggage.
These groups usually include Full-size, Standard cars and SUV vehicles, with either a standard or an extra large trunk (FST).
One popular example for a vehicle in this group is the Nissan Sentra. These Vehicles are usually a good fit for families, or for groups of up to five people.
Spacious and luxurious vehicles. These types of cars usually have a large trunk.
Some examples include Mazda 6, Mazda CX5 SUV, or similar vehicles.
This group also includes luxurious cars, such as the Chevrolet Malibu, the Mercedes E-Class and more, which you can choose from depending on your budget needs.
Vehicles with 7 seats or more.
The cheaper options in this category would normally not include a trunk, while the higher-priced vehicles (with 8-9 seats), would normally include a large trunk space.
One popular example in this group is the Mitsubishi Outlander. This car class is perfect for a big group, or a trip with your extended family.
Small Vans with five seats.
Some examples include the Renault Kangoo, or larger vehicles such as the Toyota Proace.
